NDR the broadcaster behind Germany’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, has revealed their selection process for Eurovision 2017, “Unser Song 2017”.
Germany is searching for the best five young talents from across Germany as part of their selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. NDR has opted for a brand new selection format following two years of disappointing results in the Eurovision Song Contest. “Unser Song 2017” is the answer to the countries poor results, as the focus shifts from established artists to young talent.
“Unser song 2017” will see five young artists take to the stage on February 9 in Cologne all hoping that they can make it to Kyiv. A total of 30 young singers will be selected to go through to the first round of the selection process, with 5 making it to the live final. In the live final the five singers will be performing one song each which has been produced specifically to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Helping guide both the audience and the artists through the process will be three jury members. They are Lena (Winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010), Tim Bendzko and Florian Silbereisen. The three judges will not have a say in who represents Germany in Kyiv, instead it is entirely down to the public. For the first time international viewers will also be able to influence the result of the selection, viewers across the world will be able to use the Eurovision app to show the German public who their favorite is.
Germany is confident that by introducing this new format they will once again be able to make their way back into the top.10 and revive Germany’s hopes in the contest.
