NRK the Norwegian national broadcaster has confirmed they will not be participating in Choir of the Year 2017.
Choir of the Year is a new EBU music contest to be held for the first time on July 22, 2017 in the Latvian Capital, Riga. The contest which will see between 8 and 12 countries participate is the first new EBU contest to be launched since the Eurovision Dance Contest in 2007. Each country will be represented by one non-professional choir of any genre. The contest will be integrated into the European Choir Games 2017 with the contest taking place just before the closing ceremony for the Games.
NRK informed Eurovoix.com that they will not be participating in Choir of the Year 2017 due to their existing involvement in “Let the Peoples Sing”. Let the Peoples Sing is a biannual competition organised by the EBU’s radio department for amateur choirs. NRK has stated that they intend to participate in Let the Peoples Sing 2017 in Finland, with the possibility of participating in Choir of the Year in its second edition.
Choir of the Year 2017 will be confirmed as being held by the European Broadcasting Union on November 30th, subject to sufficient interest from broadcasters. To date the only country confirmed as participating in the event is the host nation of Latvia.
