TMC the national broadcaster of the Principality of Monaco has confirmed they are not returning to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017.
Monaco has confirmed that they are not competing in the 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine. Monaco last competed in the Eurovision Song Contest 10 years ago in Athens where they were represented by Severine Ferrer and “La Coco Dance”.
Monaco first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1959 and went on to win the contest in 1971. The country then did not compete in the contest from 1980 until 2004 when the country returned to the Eurovision stage.
In the three years that Monaco returned to the contest from 2004 to 2006 participation was directly overseen by the Principality itself and not TMC the Monegasque broadcaster. The country however failed to make a final in their three attempts. The best result was 21st place in the 2006 semi final. In 2009 discussions took place to bring Monaco back to the contest however they fell through.
To date the following countries have confirmed they will not return to the contest in 2017; Andorra, Luxembourg and Monaco.
