San Marino RTV has decided to withdraw from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
San Marino which debuted in the contest in 2013 has withdrawn from this years contest in Malta. San Marino had tried to participate in the 2011 contest in Yerevan, however it took until 2013 for the country to debut in the contest. The countries best result came in 2013 when Michele Perniola finished 10th with “O-o-O Sole intorno a me”.
In a statement by the broadcaster, they state:
The Radio and Television of San Marino has decided not to participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest edition 2016. We formulate all our wishes to the Maltese friends for the best outcome of this important event.
The Director General of San Marino RTV added that a decision regarding Eurovision 2017 has not yet been taken either. The broadcaster has been outspoken about the new voting measures introduced in 2016 that saw the San Marinese televote made up of unknown countries votes.
San Marino joins Slovenia in withdrawing from this years contest in Malta. To date 10 countries have confirmed their participation in this years contest.
