The Kyiv City Government are in a dispute with the Hockey Federation of Ukraine over their plans to use the Palace of Sports to host Eurovision 2017.

The Kyiv City Government has announced that it wishes to use the Palace of Sports to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. This is the same venue used to host Eurovision 2005 and Junior Eurovision 2009. For the venue to be used to host the contest it must be free for six weeks prior to the contest being held. During this time period Ukraine is set to be hosting the Ice Hockey World Championships for Division 1A at the Sports Palace from April 22-28.

The Hockey Federation of Ukraine states that they were only informed of the decision to use the arena for the cities Eurovision bid on Wednesday. They state that if the bid from Kyiv to host Eurovision wins then the country will have to withdraw their hosting of the championships. The Federation states this is due to Ukraine lacking another suitable venue. They add this withdrawal will be an embarrassment for Ukraine, not only due to the affect on their image but also the financial costs incurred.

The Hockey Federation has stated that they will appeal the decision to use the Palace of Sports to the Ukrainian President and the City Government in Kyiv.

  1. The palace of sports is too old and far too small to host Eurovision anyway.

Please Ukraine do not pick it.

The venue was small and dated when Ukraine last hosted the contest.
