Ukraine and Russia have been exchanging comments over next years contest, with politicians in both countries calling for various restrictions to be put in place.
A member of the Ukrainian Parliament expressed his views that the Russian participant in next years contest will only be allowed to compete if they have not supported the annexation of Crimea and have not supported Russia in their conflict in Ukraine. Russia has now responded with official comments from the Russian Government stating that:
Eurovision is an international contest and the hosting side should follow the Eurovision rules,
The Government spokesperson that it is too early for Russia to say that they will not compete in next years contest adding that “It is early to rattle a sabre!”. The past day has seen various comments made by both Ukrainian and Russian politicians regarding the contest and whether Russia should participate and whether Ukraine is capable of hosting.
