The Head of Moldova 1 the broadcast in charge of Moldovan participation at Eurovision is inviting Ovidiu Anton to perform with Lidia Isac at Eurovision 2016.
Romania were forced to withdraw from this years contest at the end of last week after national broadcaster TVR was excluded from the EBU for debts totally 10 million Euros. Mircea Surdu the Director of TV for Moldova 1 has stated that he wants to invite Ovidiu to perform with Lidia in Stockholm.
The statement reads:
We are in solidarity with the whole team TVR and express our sorrow for the fact that our teams will not be in the same room, to support each other given the common cultural space and value.
With this message of solidarity, launching the idea of a collaboration between representatives of our countries. In this context, we invite Ovidiu Anton evolve on the “Eurovision” together represent the Republic of Moldova, Lidia Isac. We are convinced that the two can do a duet exceptional song “Falling Stars” in Semifinal 1 of 10 May. Obviously that changes in the concept of the show at one stage so advanced, I suppose, and approval of changes to the competition organizer. we hope that through joint efforts we can overcome moments of crisis.
Ovidiu has however now declined the offer to perform alongside Lidia in Stockholm. In a statement on his official Facebook page the artist says that:
I bow to our brothers from Moldova, in an act that is extraordinary, unique and noble. Because I know how much work is in preparation of such moment and how important it is Eurovision artist career. I don’t want to affect performance in any way for that Lidia has invested so much energy. It’s a piece that fits the bill and I want to be on stage. I can’t accept to do bringing risks for other artists. I want to sing for moment of silence for Romans and Eurovision fans everywhere.
Success is in you and your time to shine!
Thanks again for this great gesture.
I’ll never forget
