Hunan Television are taking the Eurovision Song Contest live onto TV for the first time in China.
The broadcaster has had the rights to the contest in China since 2015 and last year broadcast the contest online live to viewers across the country. Hunan Television is sending a delegation of 12 reporters to the contest in Stockholm to report on the event. The broadcaster currently holds the rights to the contest until 2018.
When asked by a journalist regarding whether Chinese interest in the contest could see Eurovision grow Martin Österdahl, Executive Producer of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 said that:
There may be bigger, but you need to discuss the format. We are now 42 countries that it is difficult logistically to accommodate everything. But the format could change so it can grow.
According to ChinaESCFans and their sources at Hunan Television the commentary team for this years contest will consist of Kubert Leung and Wu Zhoutong.
