Ahead of last nights Junior Eurovision final DR the Danish national broadcaster explained why they no longer participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Denmark last competed in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest back in 2005 having hosted the event for the first time in 2003. The Entertainment President of DR, Jan Lagermand Lundme said that:
We no longer see it (Junior Eurovision being) consistent with the values that the MGP should have in Denmark; namely that it is fun, even if it’s competition. There is nothing wrong with Junior Eurovision but it just does not really fit us in Denmark.
Mr Lundme goes on to say that he feels that the contest has become too much of a copy of the adult Eurovision Song Contest. That the contest is not focused on “the joy, the humor and the play”. DR went on to say that returning to the contest is not a priority.
