Eurovision.de has been discussing the obstacles and ideas relating to German participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Ahead of this weekends Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Sofia, Bulgaria, Eurovision.de interview with Frank-Dieter Freiling the Head of the Eurovision Reference Group from the German broadcaster ZDF. In the interview Frank Dieter Frieling explains the obstacles the Germany has to overcome to participate.
It has been strongly suggested by fans that Germany would be able to participate with the channel KiKA however it is pointed out that “De Song” allows singers to participate above the maximum age in Junior Eurovision. Furthermore KiKA finishes broadcasting at 21:00 CET, this would be before the end of Junior Eurovision meaning that it would be unsuitable to keep the channel upon longer than normal. With regards to future participation Frank-Diert Freiling adds that:
I would not like to speculate. But many questions would need to be clarified.
He goes on to end by saying that Germany would not want to participate in the contest for just one year, to then decide it would not participate in further editions of the contest.
Germany will be broadcasting Junior Eurovision online this year with commentary from Thomas Mohr.
