RTVS of Slovakia has confirmed today that they will not be participating in Eurovision 2016.
The country last participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku in 2012. The country failed to qualify for the final in their four attempts between 2009 and 2012. Slovakia’s best result in the competition is 18th place at the 1996 contest when Marcel Palonder performed “Kým nás máš”.
Earlier this year Slovakia made their return to a Eurovision contest by participating in Eurovision Young Dancers for the first time since 1997. The decision for Slovakia to come back to Young Dancers was explained by the broadcaster as supporting domestic production and promoting national culture on a European level.
A total of 38 countries are provisionally confirmed as participating in Eurovision 2016.
