ESC’16: Malmö Withdraws It’s Bid To Host

Eurovision Is Not Going Back To Malmö

Malmö the host city of Eurovision 2013 has withdrawn from the race to host Eurovision 2016.

The reason for the withdrawal from the bidding process is that Malmö Arena is not available for the required period before the contest. The venue was already booked in late April and early May 2016 for a number of concerts and events that could not be moved.

The CEO of Malmö Arena said that:

One thing is to want and another thing is to be able. Just like everyone else we love Eurovision, but we must also live up to the agreements already concluded to be a serious partner to our organizers. Had we not had the booking situation we have, it would had of course given us the energy again to get (Eurovision) to Malmö.

The news leaves Gothenburg, Sandviken jointly with Gävle, Linköping and Stockholm as the cities in the running to host Eurovision 2016.

  1. Oh, so no ESC in Scania. Malmö is just south to my hometown Landskrona. Too bad. -_- 🙂

    1. Nice to see that Gävle/Sandviken haven’t opted out. It would be cool to have the contest in the north for once. Sweden is more than everything below Stockholm! 🙂

      1. I agree. And something tells me that it won’t be in either Stockholm or Göteborg… 🙂
