Ahead of the ABU Radio Song Festival this Friday we talked to a number of the participants in the show. The first of which was Shakeel Mahota who is representing Pakistan, here is what he had to say:
Firstly congratulations on being selected to represent Pakistan, can you tell us a little bit more about yourself and how you got into music?
I have been singing since my very childhood. I was awarded the color of Best in Music by the President of Pakistan in late 1980s. Since 1990s I have been singing ghazals and film songs.
Your song is called “Pakistan Tu Meri Jaan Hai”, can you tell us what it is about and what it means to you as a singer?
The Song on Pakistan is very close to my heart as it shows my love for my country. I am sad when I am away from my country during my diplomatic assignments. That is why I have likened it to mother and home. The song could attract notice as it has been written, composed and sung by a singer who also happens to be an official representative of his country.
What are your hopes and aspirations for the future as a singer?
I intend to play a role in reviving film music in Pakistan that has been dying due to decadence of movie industry. I hope this track will boost the morale of my compatriots.
Finally, do you have anything you’d like to say to the readers of Eurovoix.com?
Do whatever you can to make your country peaceful and prosperous and also listen to my song “Pakistan, you are my heart and soul”.
We wish Shakeel all the best for the festival and the future.
