This years Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria is already over budget according to ORF presenter Andi Knoll.
The news came at a conference in London today looking at the Eurovision Song Contest. Andi Knoll from ORF who was part of the panel commented that the contest for ORF was already over budget. The contest is already costing €35 million, of which 8.9 million Euro comes from the City of Vienna itself.
The cost of the contest this year is far higher than those stated for Copenhagen and Malmo in the planning stages. The overall cost of Eurovision 2014 came to 44 million Euro, a significant overspend of over 10 million Euros over the original budget.
The cost of hosting the contest in recent years has been increasingly significantly, the costs in recent years are as follows:
- 2007 – Helsinki – 17.5 million Euro
- 2009 – Moscow – 33 million Euro
- 2012 – Baku – 60 million Euro
- 2013 – Malmo – 14.5 million Euro
- 2014 – Copenhagen – 44.865 million Euro
