According to Luxemburger Wort, Luxembourg and San Marino could be set to jointly participate in Eurovision. Thierry Mersch from Luxembourg would duet with a singer from San Marino who would be selected by the San Marinese broadcaster San Marino TV.
According to Mersch RTL would not have to pay any participation fee, 50,000 Euros will be asked for from the Ministry of Culture. San Marino TV will pay half of the costs, Mersch’s management has also said that they will pay for part of participation cost, while a further 50,000 Euros will be needed from other sources. According to the article the agreement has been postponed multiple times for funding to be found.
This would not be the first time in a Eurovision Contest that joint participation of countries has occurred, in Eurovision Young Dancers 1987 Belgium and the Netherlands sent a joint participant.
