Today ORF has outlined the requirements for any venue wishing to host Eurovision 2015. The requirements are as follows:
- Venue must be available for 6 weeks before the final as well as two inspection dates in January and March
- Venue must be covered, sound and light-insulated and be air-conditioned and have a capacity of about 10,000 people. Minimum ceiling height of 15 metres, also a green room capable of holding around 300 people
- The venue must not have any sponsorship attached to it, it must be branding neutral
- Additional spaces are available in size of approximately 6,000 m2 for the backstage area (catering, dressing rooms, makeup rooms, Viewing Room, commentary boxes) in size from 4,000 m2 to 1,500 international for the press journalists, and of sufficient size for an accreditation center needed. In addition, a space for hosting the sponsors with a capacity of around 1,000 guests must be available.
Venues that meet the criteria can submit applications to ORF to be the venue for 2014. The criteria that has been set out means that a number of venues can be ruled out already, Graz, Linz, Oberwart and Vorarlberg all have venues which fail to meet the 10,000 seat requirement.
This leaves just the Olympiahalle in Innsbruck, Weiner Stadthalle in Vienna and the Worthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt as venues with the capacity to host the contest. It seems most likely that the Weiner Stadthalle in Vienna will end up being the venue for next years contest.
