Ketnet the Children’s TV channel run by VRT in Flanders, has told Eurovoix.com that they are no longer interested in Junior Eurovision. The broadcaster told us that:
It is true that Ketnet since this year is no longer participating in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest . But Ketnet put it subject to the quest for musical young talent continues .
Ketnet announced that they were withdrawing from Junior Eurovision at the start of 2013 after participating in every contest up to 2012. Ketnet went on to say that:
Ketnet wants to shift the focus from just the winner with a figure who comes to stand for all participants in the spotlight. Not only the winner is an idol for Ketnet viewers, but all participants are. This is the track that Ketnet wants to develop further. In this way children get more opportunities .
Due to the international event separately , we have more space to put the spotlight on all the children and speak . A more diverse range of talent. Furthermore, research has shown that our own national path , Junior Eurosong , the Ketnet viewers watch this in larger numbers than the international show . Ketnet works for a large youthful audience and wants as many children opportunities and put in the spotlight .
From 2003 to 2005 Belgium’s participation in the contest was jointly run by VRT and RTBF, the selection process would rotate each year between VRT and RTBF. RTBF withdrew due to a lack of interest in Wallonia.
