Germany may make their debut at Junior Eurovision 2014. NDR the German broadcast sent an observer to Junior Eurovision 2013 to work out whether or not they will be interested in the contest.
In 2003 at the inaugural contest ARD/NDR expressed an interest in taking part in the original contest and were on the original participants list, but did not take part in the end. Again in 2004 Germany said they would take part, but withdrew from the contest before it took place. After the 2004 contest Jürgen Meier-Beer who was responsible for Eurovision at NDR, told esctoday that:
Germany did not join the Junior Eurovision Song Contest because no TV professional believes in a success of the existing concept under the specific German market conditions.
The appearance of an observer at the contest is a good sign for the future of the contest, which is due to undergo large changes for the 2014 audition, which is hoped to bring countries back and new western countries in.
Amazing! We could see a German entry! Hopely Spain Returns too
Yeah! I Like The Sound of That! It would be Germany’s best score since Lena Meyer-Landrut winning in 2010.
So, Germany MIGHT be sending the first ever “Little Lena” next year!! I can’t wait 😀
With Luck we will have a lot of countries next year! Jesc Recesion is out!
Brilliant news, good to see that NTU’s effort at making this year’s contest the best in years is paying off. Hopefully 2014 in Malta will be a bigger celebration
When I flew home from Kyiv I saw the German HoD Torsten Amarell at Munich Airport and he seemed very convinced. Fingers crossed for a German entry in 2014!
The fact that Germany even looked at the contest is a good thing, taking part is the icing on the cake.
