Baku’12: 64 Million Watched The Final

Viewing Figures Drop For 2012

The EBU have today revealed that a total of 63.9 million people tuned in to watch the Grand Final. This is the lowest figure the contest has seen since 2008, however in participating countries an average of 37% of people watched the show.

The 1st Semi Final saw 19.4 million viewers and the 2nd semi final saw 19.6 million viewers across Europe. In response to the figures the head of the contest Jon Ola Sand  said “We’re happy that the Eurovision Song Contest is still a huge ratings success, being one of the top shows for the participating broadcasters every year”. In total for the 2012 contest 102.9 million people watched at least one part of the contest.

  • 2008- 64 million
  • 2009- 73 million
  • 2010- 69 million
  • 2011- 70 million
  • 2012- 64 million

The high figure in 2009 was due to increased interest in Russia due to Moscow hosting the contest.
