BHRT is pessimistic over their chances of remaining a member of the European Broadcasting Union.
Today is the deadline that the EBU gave the national broadcaster of Bosnia & Herzegovina to pay part of their outstanding debt. BHRT has stated this morning that they have managed to secure 125,000 Euros to be able to pay for the rights to broadcast the Euro’s which start this Friday, this payment is 10% of the overall fee that needs to be paid to the EBU.
The channel has struggled to find the resources to pay their debt to the EBU, with the station remaining pessimistic of their chances of remaining an EBU member. BHRT states that Government agencies despite stating their intention assist in paying the debt have failed to follow through in their assistance.
BHRT which is due to close on June 30 will be meeting with workers and trade unions who are protesting against its closure at the start of next week. Furthermore representatives of the European Union have added that the closure of the broadcaster would impact on the countries steps towards EU membership.
