BHRT the national broadcaster of Bosnia & Herzegovina is facing closure as financial pressures continue to grow.
BHRT’s financial difficulties have been reported widely over the past few months however it has now emerged that the broadcaster may have not be shut down. Management Board of BHRT has recommended that the broadcaster begin the process of gradually shutting down program by program due to the financial pressures at the broadcaster.
The broadcaster is currently underfunded unable to find 500,0000 Bosnian marks per month to keep the broadcaster afloat. BHRT has already cut hundreds of staff and reduced its monthly cost by 1 million Bosnian marks. For BHRT to remain in business a new funding model has to be found and approved by the Government however BHRT feels that the Bosnian Government does not care whether the broadcaster remains afloat.
Bosnia & Herzegovina are due to participate in Eurovision 2016, the funding for participation has come from 100% private sponsorship.
